Today’s SME funding landscape


CAIM and Byrne Wallace jointly hosted a seminar on financing for SMEs on 18 October 2017 in the Byrne Wallace offices at 88 Harcourt Street.

This seminar provided  an insight into the current funding market and how an SME can enhance their chances of successful fundraising.

The topics addressed are of particular relevance to SMEs and small business advisors supporting that vital sector of the economy. Attendees gained the perspective of fundraising support experts and met some alternative funders in the SME market.

Our panel included distinguished business advisors and funding experts who shared their practical tips and insights on the specific challenges facing SMEs.

Pat Byrne
Chairman of CAIM and Interim Manager / Business Advisor

Pat has worked internationally with KPMG and National Australia Bank Group in various audit, finance, strategy, risk and project management roles before establishing his own business in 2000. As an independent interim manager and business advisor his ongoing focus is interim FC and turnaround, regulatory & operational risk, change & operational management, treasury & fundraising.

Mark Kavanagh
Partner and Head of Banking and Finance

As partner and Head of the ByrneWallace Banking and Finance team, Mark advises both borrowers and lending institutions on all types of lending transactions including cash flow lending, and secured and unsecured lending. Mark also has experience advising the SME sector and growing companies. In 2017, Mark and his team were awarded the Finance Dublin Deal of the Year – Loans & Financing (SME Sector). Mark has also previously received the Client Choice Award for excellence in client service for Ireland in Banking.

Leo Casey
Head of Republic of Ireland

Jim has over 30 years’ retail and corporate banking experience working with National Irish Bank (part of Danske Bank Group). Prior to leaving National Irish Bank he held the position of General Manager with responsibility for the Midlands Regions and was a member of the Bank’s Executive Committee. He also holds the position of Head Credit Reviewer with the Credit Review Office which was established in 2010 under the NAMA legislation.

Dr Ray Nulty

Strategic Advisor to BCRS

Dr Ray has over 30 years’ experience as an international business advisor with a track record of delivering innovative business and technology solutions for clients. His major focus is strategy and strategy execution with particular concentration on disruption and innovation. Dr Ray is a strategic advisor to the Board of BCRS (an established UK SME lender) on their launch of an Irish loan fund, as well as other potential new entrants in trade finance and micro insurance arenas.

John Bowe
Managing Director, Corporate Finance

John has over 15 years’ experience and has successfully advised many of Ireland’s companies and individuals on a wide range of transactions including M&A, trade sales, strategic advisory, debt advisory, company valuations and IPO’s. Prior to joining Mazars, he was a founding member of Raglan Capital and also worked for Merrion Stockbrokers as an equity research analyst concentrating on the financial services sector.
